Twitter’s new owner, Elon Musk, announced on Friday that Twitter’s famous blue checkmark badges that distinguish certified accounts from other profiles will soon have equivalents with different colors.
On Twitter, Musk wrote on November 25 that several varieties of badges will arrive soon, along with the arrival of the “new” version of the verification process.
Twitter may become even more colorful. Indeed, the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, announced that Twitter account certification will be a reality again starting December 2, and this time with blue, gray and gold checkmark badges. Each color will correspond to an account type.
Gold, gray and blue checkmark badges
Three colors are planned to identify paid users, companies and governments:
- The gold badge will be for businesses and other organizations
- The gray badge will be for governments
- The blue badge will be for all individuals, whether they are celebrities or not.
Elon Musk specified that all authenticated individual accounts would have the same blue badge, but some will eventually be able to display a small secondary logo indicating that they belong to an organization if they are verified as such by that organization.
$8 a month for the blue checkmark badge
Elon Musk wants to introduce a paid subscription at $8 per month allowing all users who want to get the famous blue checkmark badge, which was previously free but reserved for accounts considered well-known. A first version of this new system had run out of steam in early November, forcing Elon Musk to postpone the launch date to November 29 before delaying it once more. It now appears the feature will launch on December 2.
